Police arrest man after murder of local Air Force vet in McHenry home invasion

(PATCH.COM) — Bond has been set at $2.5 million for a 25-year-old Wonder Lake man accused of taking part in a home invasion near McHenry last month that left a local veteran dead, police said.

Jared J. Fox has been charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and residential burglary for his role in the crime.

Donald Jouravleff, 52, was shot after two masked men forced their way into his home in the 1800 block of Davis Avenue unincorporated McHenry at about 1 a.m. on May 27.

Jouravleff died as a result of his injuries later that day, police said. The men who forced their way into his home also stole cash before fleeing the scene.

Investigators worked to develop leads in the case and took Fox into custody on Wednesday, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Information on the motive behind the shooting has not been released. But the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the home invasion and murder and more arrests are expected, police said Thursday.

“This announcement is recognized by law enforcement as a first step in seeking justice for the family of Donald and supporting them through closure,” McHenry County Sheriff Bill Prim said Thursday. “The tireless work of our investigators over the last 20 days is a testament to the dedication of McHenry County Law Enforcement.”

Jouravleff was an avid fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was passionate about his friends and family, according to his obituary. He was a new member of Willow Crystal Lake Community Church.
