A 42-year-old Fox Lake man was flown to the hospital after a small plane crashed in McHenry County Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Galt Airport, 5112 Greenwood Road in unincorporated Greenwood, at 10:36 a.m. Saturday for a report of a small plane that crashed.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that the pilot, a 42-year-old Fox Lake man, and a 15-year-old passenger from Plainfield, were in the plane when it crashed.

The 42-year-old man was piloting a Lockwood AirCam plane when it crashed shortly after takeoff for an unknown reason, the sheriff’s office said.

The pilot was transported by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. The 15-year-old passenger was checked out by medics at the scene and not transported.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, Woodstock Fire/Rescue, a Mercy Health Field Physician and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Galt Airport is a small airport located in unincorporated Greenwood, which is a very small village northwest of Wonder Lake in McHenry County.
