No one was injured after a school bus burst in flames, causing a large column of smoke, on Grand Avenue in Gurnee Wednesday afternoon.

The Gurnee Fire Department and Gurnee Police Department responded around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday to Grand Avenue and Gurnee Mills Circle East for a report of a vehicle fire.

Fire crews arrived and found a school bus with heavy flames and smoke coming from it. Firefighters used water and foam to extinguish the fire.

The Gurnee Police Department said that no kids were on the bus and the driver exited safely. No injuries were reported.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of Grand Avenue were shutdown. The roadway was reopened around 3:55 p.m., police said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gurnee Fire Department.
