The driver of an Amazon semi-trailer was killed Monday morning after his truck rolled over and caught fire on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth.

The Newport Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 5:22 a.m. Monday to Interstate 94 south of Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fire crews arrived to find a semi-tractor-trailer truck rolled over onto the median near the 6.5 milepost.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside his vehicle and it took firefighters about 10 minutes to free the victim.

Illinois State Police Trooper Jayme Bufford said that the driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 and police closed the two left lanes for the investigation.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, Bufford said. It is unclear what caused the semi-truck to crash.

No further information was available, Bufford said, adding that the incident remains under investigation.
