The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an explosive device in the ground near  the 2900 Block of Northwest Road in Unincorporated Marengo around 4:30 P.M on Sunday.

The explosive device was found by a metal detector hobbyist who then called 911. Once the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, they requested the Kane County Bomb Squad to the scene.

The Kane County Bomb Squad confirmed that it seemed to be a legitimate bomb, and that they destroyed it on the scene safely. No other devices were found in the area.
