Gurnee Fire Department and multiple other departments are on scene of a commercial structure fire with explosions at a propane tank company in Gurnee.
Gurnee Fire Department was first called to the propane tank company Pinnacle Propane Express at 3895 Clearview Court at 11:57 AM this morning for an activated fire alarm.
Before firefighters arrived on scene, dispatch advised that the business called and reported a fire inside the building.
Soon after arrival the fire department reported an active fire inside the building and upgraded the call to a working still alarm for additional manpower to the scene.
With multiple explosions being reported, fire command upgraded the call to a 5th alarm, bringing in resources from multiple surrounding counties and calling for evacuations of residents and businesses. Trains have also been stopped in the area.
Multiple explosions have been reported from propane tanks inside the building exploding.
Several foam trucks have been requested to the scene. The gas company is working on shutting off the gas. This is still an active scene.
The incident is currently at the 7th alarm.
UPDATE: Per Gurnee Police Department Facebook page — “The fire incident has been stabilized. Clearview Court at Northwestern Avenue remains closed to vehicle traffic, all other roadways are open.”
