(PRESS RELEASE) — Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a head-on traffic crash, with injuries on Route 12 south of Route 120 in Volo.

On Saturday September 17 at approximately 4:07 PM Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to the crash and found two vehicles with severe damage.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 27 year-old woman, of Chicago, was traveling northbound on Route 12. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet traveled over the grass median, which separates the northbound lanes from the southbound lanes. The Chevrolet then struck a southbound Kia Sedona, head-on, driven by a 44 year-old man, of Round Lake Beach.

Both drivers required extrication by Wauconda Fire Department, in order to be removed from their vehicles. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Condell Hospital, in Libertyville, via medical helicopter with critical injuries. The driver of the Kia was transported to Condell Hospital via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
