The Wauconda Fire District responded to an early morning house fire in the 100 block of Fairfield Drive in Island Lake Thursday.

Officials stated in a press release that firefighters arrived at around 3:15 AM to a 2 story house with fire showing. The occupants of the residence were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape without injury.

The fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm response to bring in additional fire departments in order to rotate crews throughout the fire due to freezing cold weather conditions.

The fire was brought under control after around 40 minutes. Fire investigators are still investigating but say the fire originated in the attached garage of the structure. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

ComEd, NICOR, Wauconda School District buses, Island Lake Public Works, and Red Cross were called to the scene as well.
