(TheYouJournal.com) — A series of armed robberies happened over the weekend involving two gas stations and two drugstores in Waukegan according to Waukegan Police.
A 17-year-old was arrested and charged with robbing both CVS and Walgreens on Friday, Feb. 10.
The CVS at 10 S. Lewis Avenue was robbed at 1:45 p.m., Friday, allegedly by the juvenile who had used a box cutter. Later that night at about 8:35 p.m., police said the same juvenile robbed the Walgreens store in the 700 block of North Green Bay Road also with a box cutter. Money was taken in both incidents.
Police spotted the juvenile suspect a short time after the Walgreens robbery and arrested him. He was transported to the Depke Juvenile Detention facility in Vernon Hills.
The Citgo gas station in the 2200 block of North Lewis Avenue was robbed at gun point at about 10 p.m. Friday by three offenders, according to police. The clerk told officers one of the men displayed a black handgun and took an undisclosed amount of money.
The gunman in this incident was described as black, in his 20s, thinly built, and wearing a gray hoodie with blue sleeves and white jeans. He had sunglass on.
The second offender is said to be black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie emblazoned with the word “Chicago” over a picture of the Chicago skyline and blue jogging pants.
The third man, whose race is unknown, was wearing dark clothing including a zip-up hoodie. All three fled on foot after allegedly committing the robbery.
On Sunday, Feb. 12, at about 6 p.m., the Citgo gas station in the 1000 block of Golf Road was robbed at gunpoint by a lone robber, police said. The clerk told officers that the man, described as black, and wearing a black jacket with a patch on the right shoulder and black pants, showed a silver handgun. He left after taking an undisclosed amount of money.
Waukegan Police said the two armed robberies are being treated as separate incidents pending further investigation.
