A 45-year-old man was killed and a 42-year-old woman injured when the motorcycle they were riding crashed Tuesday afternoon in northwest suburban Fox Lake.

Emergency crews responded about 5 p.m. to the single-motorcycle wreck on Rollins Road near Elm Avenue, according to Fox Lake police.

The driver of the motorcycle, Mark Dittmer, 45, hit his head after being ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman passenger was also ejected however she suffered minor injuries, police said.

They both lived in Round Lake Heights.

Neither of the victims were wearing helmets.

Police said that the driver’s cell phone rang and he tried handing it back to the passenger when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.

Traffic was blocked off for several hours while Fox Lake Police and Lake County Major Crash Assist Team (MCAT) investigated the scene.
