(PRESS RELEASE) — The Zion Police Department is investigating a shooting that wounded one person near 24th Street & Galilee Avenue.
The shooting took place at approximately 3:52 PM on Thursday.
The Zion Police first received a report of the shooting when the victim, a 21-year old male from Zion, came into the lobby of the police department.
Officers responded, determined that the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the back, provided first aid, and requested the Zion Fire & Rescue Department respond to treat his injuries.
At the same time the Zion Police Department Dispatch Center received several 911 calls reporting a shooting in the area of 24th Street & Galilee Avenue.
The victim, who had been driven to the police department by friends, was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. Once there he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Officers recovered nine spent casings from a handgun at the scene of the shooting. According the victim, witnesses, and physical evidence the victim was shot while he was riding in a vehicle near 24th Street & Galilee Avenue.
