Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Wauconda Fire Department responded at 10:10 p.m. Saturday to a report of a car that hit a pole in unincorporated Mundelein.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived they located a single-vehicle with heavy damage which struck a utility pole. The driver was trapped in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Acura TL, being driven by James T. Horan, 60, of Park Ridge, was traveling eastbound on Route 176, just east of Ivanhoe Road.
The Acura was only occupied by Horan. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
There was extensive damage to the Acura, as well as the utility pole, which caused a power outage in the area.
Horan sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigation Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office. Investigators will determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
