Kenosha man allegedly runs over girlfriend’s sister, gets into a crash after fleeing in Zion

( — A string of hit and runs in Zion this week led to the arrest of a Kenosha man who is facing multiple charges.

Cornell Conely, 27, who was apprehended after abandoning his Ford SUV on a Zion street following several accidents April 11, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury, reckless driving, and driving while license suspended.

According to a news release from the Zion Police Department, Conely was involved in a vehicle accident with a pedestrian in the 2300 block of 30th Street following an argument he apparently had with family members of his girlfriend.

The 22-year old female victim, a sister of Conley’s girlfriend, was transported by Zion Fire/Rescue to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was listed in stable condition with broken bones and internal injuries.

Then a second crash involving Conely took place, this time at Route 173 & Gilead Avenue in Zion involving another car and a semi-truck.

The occupants of the car involved included a 74-year old male and a 70-year old female who received non-life threatening injuries. They were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center.

The driver of a semi-truck involved in that crash, was not injured.

Police said Conely fled the scene of the crash and abandoned the vehicle in the 1700 block of Hermon Avenue in Zion.

Family members and witnesses provided the name of the alleged driver and described the car as a small Ford SUV, according to the release made available Wednesday.

He was taken to bond court on Wednesday and is being held on $100,000 bond. wrote this article
