(PATCH.COM) — The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has identified a 59-year-old woman who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Harvard as Susan Hathcock.
Hathcock was crossing Brink Street/Route 173 near South Division Street at about 9:18 p.m. May 17 when she was hit by an eastbound 2007 Nissan. She was taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan, a 25-year-old man, was treated at the scene and released, police said. He later received a citation for an insurance violation, the Northwest Herald reports.
Hathcock is being remembered as a loving and compassionate mother who was a dear friend to everyone she met, according to the GoFundMe page. The family is in the process of organizing a memorial service and the GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for the service and burial. As of Thursday night, over $4,500 has been raised.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone wishing to donate to Hathcock’s family can do so here.
