2 injured after drunk driver hits police car, house in Lake Villa

A suspected drunk driver and a police officer were injured after the suspect struck a Lake Villa police car and then hit a house.

The crash occurred on Route 83 near Bretons Drive in Lake Villa early Sunday at around 12:50 a.m..

Police said that Thomas J. Weber, 26, of the 100 block of Milwaukee Ave in Lake Villa was travelling northbound on Route 83 in his Ford F-250 pickup truck when he struck the rear driver’s side of a police car that was on a traffic stop.

After hitting the police car the truck continued northbound and swerved and hit the corner of a house at 211 South Milwaukee Ave, authorities said.

Weber tried to leave the scene after hitting the house by backing up but his truck was disabled from the crash.

Weber was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both the officer who was on the traffic stop and Weber suffered minor injuries, police said.
