The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has identified the body that was found in a retention pond in front of the Crystal Lake OfficeMax last week.

Police were called June 19 after a dead body was spotted in the retention pond across from the OfficeMax at 4417 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski identified the man as Eulalio Elizarraraz Soto, 29, from Carpentersville. Friends and family also called him “Lalo” according to his obituary.

The preliminary autopsy results released last week suggested that Soto died from drowning, according to the coroner. Toxicology testing is pending.

It’s still unknown how exactly Soto drowned. Detectives are still investigating and working to figure it out. Foul play is not suspected police said.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and McHenry County Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate the death.

A GoFundMe page was setup last week to help with funeral expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/kems33-funeral-cost-and-other-expenses.

Almost $7,000 has been raised as of today by over 100 people. On the GoFundMe page it said that Soto left behind a 4-year-old son, Santiago.

“Anything that remains [after funeral expenses] will be provided to his son as a means of assistance” according to the GoFundMe description.
