Six people were injured Monday after two SUVs crashed in Vernon Hills near Hawthorn Mall.
First responders were called at around 2:45 p.m. to a report of a crash with injuries on Route 21 north of Route 60, according to a statement from Countryside Fire Protection District Lt. Russ Bach.
Crews arrived to find two mid-sized SUVs with moderate damage at the scene. One SUV rolled over multiple times and one person needed to be extricated from one of the SUVs, officials said
The airbags in both SUVs deployed during the crash, Lt. Russ Bach said.
Six people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts.
Police said that a Honda CR-V was turning from northbound Route 21 into Hawthorn Mall just north of Route 60 and was struck by a Toyota Highlander coming southbound on Route 21 causing the CR-V to rollover multiple times.
Authorities said that the driver of the Honda CR-V was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.
