A man has been charged with home invasion and attempted murder in an incident that happened near Cary early Sunday police said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Cary Police Department, and Cary Fire Protection District responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a house in the 7300 block of Swan Way in unincorporated Cary at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.
When deputies arrived they found one victim outside the residence bleeding from the head and face. Deputies located the suspect, Edward J. Zegers, inside a bedroom in the residence with injuries to his face.
Officials said that an investigation revealed that Zegers had forced entry to the residence and attacked the victim with a construction style nail gun.
A fight ensued between Zegers and the victim. The victim sustained injuries to their head and face. Zegers was also injured during the attack.
The victim was transported to Good Shepherd hospital and treated. Authorities said the victim has since been released from the hospital.
Zegers was also transported to the hospital and released into McHenry County Sheriff’s Office custody on Monday.
The suspect, Edward J. Zegers, 52, of Cary, has been charged with attempted murder, home invasion, and residential burglary, according to a statement from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
Zegers’ bond was set at $3 million. His next court date is Friday July 7 at 9:00 a.m..
