The man killed in an ATV crash early last Sunday in the Lake County Forest Preserve in Buffalo Grove has been identified.

William McPherron, 35, of Deerfield was identified by Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper as the man who was killed after suffering injuries from an ATV crash.

At 12:55 a.m. last Sunday, the Buffalo Grove and Wheeling fire departments responded to a report of an all-terrain vehicle crash at the northeast corner of the Lake County Forest Preserve, according to the Buffalo Grove fire department.

Both fire departments and the Lake County sheriff’s office began a search and found two people on the path behind 301 N. Riverwalk Dr. in Buffalo Grove, south of the Lake Cook path bridge.

McPherron, who was driving the ATV, was located in traumatic cardiac arrest, and a female victim who was riding as a passenger on the ATV had suffered a head injury, according to the fire department.

McPherron was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, according to the fire department. The female was also taken to Condell with minor injuries.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that McPherron died from multiple traumatic injuries according to a preliminary autopsy. Cooper also said that the toxicology results are pending.
