Libertyville police searched for the driver of a stolen vehicle who escaped from a police pursuit on Thursday night but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.
At around 8:00 p.m. a Libertyville Police Department patrol officer observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Route 176 near Route 21 in Libertyville at a high rate of speed.
Officials said that prior to the officer spotting the vehicle it apparently struck another vehicle near Route 176 and Blueberry Road in Libertyville. No one was injured in that crash.
Police lost sight of the vehicle as it traveled eastbound along Route 176 but located it a short time later abandoned in the 300 block of Broadway Street in Libertyville. Authorities said that prior to this the vehicle struck a street sign and a tree nearby where the vehicle was ditched.
Mundelein Police K-9 unit assisted Libertyville Police but they were unsuccessful in locating the driver, authorities said.
According to police officials, the vehicle was reported stolen in the Village of Pingree Grove in Kane County, Illinois earlier in the day.
Currently the driver remains on the loose at this time.
Police said that this incident had “no relation or involvement with the [double murder] last night in Crystal Lake”.
