One person was found dead inside the Campos Income Tax building in Round Lake after a fire tore through it Friday, authorities said.
The body was found on the second floor of the building at 247 Cedar Lake Road. The person has not yet been publicly identified according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Fire crews were called to the building, which housed the tax service on the first floor and apartments on the second floor at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday.
A Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) third alarm was requested which brought in fire departments from around Lake County and McHenry County.
The cause of the fire is not known and the building has been deemed a total loss.
