The coroner has released preliminary information and identified the body that was found floating in a pond in Lake in the Hills Tuesday morning.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection district was called at around 10:40 a.m. for a report of a person in the water at Larsen Park, 1211 Pyott Road, which is near Creekview Lane and Horizon Ridge.

Authorities said that a bystander had called 911 to report a person face down in the water.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and began searching the area. Fire officials said that the victim was located and removed from the water by fire department personnel.

According to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne L. Majewski, the body has been identified as Robert C. Van Ness Jr., 63, of Algonquin.

Preliminary findings from the autopsy performed Wednesday morning show that Van Ness Jr. had an enlarged heart which likely resulted in a sudden cardiac arrest causing him to fall into the water, McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne L. Majewski said.
