A woman was killed after being struck by a freight train Thursday morning in Barrington causing delays on Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line.
Metra officials and police said that a 49-year-old woman was struck by a Canadian National train at 2:38 a.m. near the Barrington Metra Station at 201 South Spring Street.
According to police the incident is being investigated as a suicide.
Metra said that inbound trains were temporarily halted but resumed with extensive delays at around 7:15 a.m.. Trains were delayed up to around 70 minutes and several trains were filled to capacity running express to Chicago.
No additional information has been released yet by police.
