A man was killed after being shot multiple times in Waukegan early Saturday morning, police said.
At about 12:15 a.m. officers from the Waukegan Police Department responded to the upstairs apartment of a home in the 500 block of Cummings Avenue in Waukegan for multiple 911 calls of a shooting.
Police said that when upon arrival in the apartment officers located a man that had been shot multiple times and was unresponsive. The man was transported by the Waukegan Fire Department to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At about 2:15 a.m. the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded, officials said. Police say that the man killed in the shooting has been identified as Leon Pruitt Jr, 26, of Waukegan.
Monday morning at around 9:00 a.m. an autopsy was performed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, the preliminary results confirm that Pruitt Jr. died from multiple gunshot wounds. Toxicology results are pending.
Authorities said that multiple leads are being investigated and as information is available it will be released. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community.
