A man riding on a bicycle was killed after being struck by a car in Woodstock Tuesday night.

Woodstock Police and Woodstock Fire Rescue were called to the intersection of Route 14 and Route 47 in Woodstock at about 7:30 p.m..

When first responders arrived they found a 25-year-old male bicyclist with critical injuries who was struck by a vehicle.

A Flight For Life medical helicopter was called to meet the ambulance at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock for transport to a Level 1 trauma center. However, the helicopter ended up not transporting the victim because he was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m..

McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski identified the victim as Robert Amos James, 25, of Woodstock.

“Mr. James was riding a bicycle north on Route 47 when he proceeded into the intersection of Route 14 and Route 47 reportedly against the red light and was struck by a car heading east on Route 14,” Dr. Anne Majewski said.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday at the McHenry County Coroner’s Office revealed that James died from blunt force injuries to the head, chest, and abdomen. Toxicology testing is pending at this time, the coroner said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department, Major Crash Accident Team of McHenry County, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
