Police said that a speeding motorcyclist was killed after losing control and crashing into parked cars in Waukegan early Saturday morning.

At 1:30 a.m. Waukegan police and fire departments responded to the area of Berwick Avenue and Grand Avenue in Waukegan for a report of a vehicle crash. When police officers arrived they located a severe motorcycle accident.

Authorities said that the driver of the motorcycle was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division was called in to investigate. They said that it’s believed that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Berwick Avenue approaching Grand Avenue when the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into multiple parked cars on Berwick Avenue.

Investigators also said that it’s believed that excessive speed played a factor in the crash. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said the driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Jose Hernandez, 28, of Round Lake Heights. An autopsy performed at the Lake County Coroner’s Office on Monday confirmed that Hernandez died from multiple traumatic injuries due to the crash.
