Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide after a domestic incident at a home last week in Gurnee.
At about 5:30 p.m. last Thursday the Gurnee Police Department was called to the 4200 block of Harper Ave in Gurnee for a reported domestic situation.
Gurnee police said that officers located two males who were dead upon their arrival. According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, one of the two males has been identified as 50-year-old, Ozell Sampson, Jr., and the other has been identified as 30-year-old Tony Butler, Jr., both from Gurnee.
According to Dr. Cooper, preliminary autopsy results showed that Sampson died from multiple gunshot wounds and Butler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Our sincerest condolences go out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy,” Dr. Cooper said. Toxicology testing is pending for both, he added.
According to police scanner traffic, the 911 call came in as a shots fired / domestic disturbance call.
The Gurnee Police Department said they requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. The task force and Gurnee Detectives are investigating and have been working with the Lake County Coroner’s Office, officials said.
Gurnee police said in a statement, “This was a domestic situation and a tragedy for the family involved. This incident poses no danger to the community and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
