A 27-year-old man who was critically injured after a motorcycle crash in Fox Lake on Tuesday has died, police said.

Fox Lake police and firefighters responded to a report of a car that hit a motorcycle at around 4:30 p.m. on State Park Road just south of Grass Lake Road near Kohl Avenue in Fox Lake.

Police said that a preliminary investigation shows the man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on State Park Road in the southbound lanes near Kohl Avenue attempting to pass vehicles that were in the northbound lane. A Chevrolet passenger car driving in the northbound lanes turned left onto Kohl Avenue from State Park Road and the motorcyclist hit the driver’s side of the vehicle, according to Fox Lake police.

The motorcyclist has not been publicly identified yet pending notification of next of kin. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is investigating the man’s death and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The crash had shut down roads around the crash during rush hour on Tuesday which later reopened at around 9:00 p.m..

Authorities said that the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting in the crash investigation.
