A 14-year-old boy has been charged after he brought a gun to Zion-Benton High School, police said.

On Monday, school administrators were notified that a student may have brought a gun into the Zion-Benton High School at 3901 West 21st Street in Zion, District 126 Superintendent Chris Clark said in a letter to parents.

Police were notified and the student was taken into custody without incident just before 10:00 a.m., officials said. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the student. Police said that the gun was reported stolen out of Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The letter to parents said that it was an isolated incident involving only that student. No students or staff members were ever in “imminent harm” and the incident was resolved and did not disrupt the school day, according to the school’s letter.

The boy was charged with felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm. The boy was transported by Zion police to the Depke Juvenile Complex Center in Vernon Hills.
