A Harvard man died after trying to get into a truck bed of the vehicle he was driving Saturday evening, authorities said.
Harvard Fire and Rescue and Harvard Police were called at 9:35 p.m. Saturday evening to Crowley Road west of Harvard Hills Road in Harvard. When first responders arrived, they located Joshua M. Trepanier, 21, of Harvard, down in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:07 p.m., McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Anne Majewski said.
According to Dr. Anne Majewski, Trepanier was the driver of a small truck that had two other passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle was moving when Trepanier reportedly exited the truck, to get into the truck bed, and fell onto the roadway suffering fatal injuries, the coroner said.
The two passengers in the vehicle were not injured, officials said. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday morning to determine the specific injuries that caused the death. Toxicology testing is pending.
The incident remains under investigation by the Harvard Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Accident Investigation Unit was called in to assist with the investigation as well.
