A Chicago man is in custody after he robbed a Verizon Wireless store at gunpoint in Zion on Thursday.
The Zion Police Department received a report of an armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless store, 2109 Sheridan Road in Zion, at 10:41 a.m. on Thursday. Police said that the 911 caller reported a male black wearing a striped shirt and a wig entered the store, displayed a black handgun, and took cash and electronic devices before fleeing out the back door of the store.
Zion police officers were able to locate a vehicle in the 3400 block of Galilee Avenue in Zion that fled the robbery scene. Authorities said that two suspects abandoned the vehicle in that block and fled on foot.
One suspect, Cordero Everett, 30, of Chicago, was apprehended in the 3400 block of Gilead Avenue. The second unidentified suspect was able to escape police officers despite a police canine search of the area.
Zion police officers recovered a bag containing the stolen electronic devices in the 1900 block of 33rd Street where it had been left by the suspects. Officers also recovered the striped shirt and wig in the 3400 block of Galilee Avenue.
Everett was charged with armed robbery, robbery, and burglary. He was taken to bond court on Friday and is being held on a $1 million bond. Police said that the investigation into the second suspect is ongoing.
