One person is dead and two others were left injured after a shooting in Waukegan on Saturday, police said.

At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Waukegan Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Pickus Court in Waukegan for a 911 call of a shooting. When police officers arrived they found three victims outside who were shot.

Police said that two of the victims who were shot were in their late twenties and from the Waukegan area. They were both taken to an area hospital for their injuries. One of them suffered non-life threatening injuries and the other one is still in the hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities said that a third victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed Monday. According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, the third victim has been identified as 34-year-old Brian Hopkins from Gurnee. His next of kin has been notified.

Dr. Cooper said that preliminary results of the autopsy confirmed that Hopkins died as a result of the gunshot wound. Toxicology results are pending.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is investigating the shooting. Investigators are following up on “many leads” but authorities have not released any further information at this time.
