More than a dozen ambulances were called after nine students were overcome by heat Saturday afternoon in Waukegan.
At around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, first responders were called to the area of Brookside Avenue and McAree Road in Waukegan for a report of multiple heat exhaustion victims.
It occurred on the field on the southwest corner of the intersection across the street from Waukegan High School’s Brookside Campus. Witnesses said that the high school students were participating in the JROTC Bulldog Olympics and began to suffer from exhaustion due to the extreme heat.
High temperatures were over 90 degrees today in Waukegan.
A Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) third alarm box was activated which brought in over a dozen ambulances from several towns near Waukegan. Nine students were transported to the hospital.
