Two dogs were rescued by police officers after a house fire in Crystal Lake on Saturday, officials said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department said that firefighters were called at around 1:18 p.m. on Saturday to a report of smoke coming from the attic at 191 Eastview Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Police officers arrived and rescued two dogs from inside the house. The dogs were treated for smoke inhalation with oxygen masks and released to their owners at the scene. Authorities said that one cat died and two others remain missing following the fire.

Firefighters got the fire under control by around 1:50 p.m.. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials believe it started in the kitchen. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Damage to the home was estimated at $60,000. The house was deemed uninhabitable.
