A head-on crash sent two people to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday afternoon near Woodstock.

First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Route 176 and Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock at around 3:36 p.m. for a report of a three-vehicle head-on collision.

According to officials, a preliminary investigation indicates a 2000 Chevrolet truck, driven by a 17-year-old Hampshire man, was traveling eastbound on Route 176 and for an unknown reason crossed into the westbound lane striking a 2008 Honda and then striking a 1995 Lexus head-on.

The 17-year-old man, and his 25-year-old passenger, were both transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley in good condition. The driver of the Lexus, a 59-year-old woman, was transported to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock and directly flown to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville.

The passenger in the Lexus, a 37-year-old woman from Marengo, was initially transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley, but was later flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The driver of the Honda, a 47-year-old woman from Harvard was treated and released from the scene.

Drivers in both the Honda and Lexus were wearing seatbelts, it’s unknown if the occupants of the Chevrolet truck had their seatbelts on. Officials do not believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash.

Charges are still pending at this time. The crash resulted in a road closure of approximately four hours.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
