Police have seized an additional $500,000 worth of marijuana on Monday from the ongoing investigation into the drug cartel-linked drug ring that had already turned up $3 million of marijuana.

The Round Lake Park Police Department, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducted a raid of a home in the 34000 block of Bergen Street in Ingleside on Monday. Authorities found around 100 pounds of marijuana in the home.

The house, which was vacant, was linked back to Maria T. Villa-Mauleon, 30, of the 400 block of Meadow Green in Round Lake Beach, who was arrested last week when police found around 600 pounds of marijuana in her Round Lake Beach home and at a storage unit.

The initial investigation into this began on October 7 at around 4:15 p.m. when Jose Avila-Zumadio, 32, of Guadalajara, Mexico, was stopped by Round Lake Park police for a traffic violation in the area of Route 134 and Fairlawn Drive near Hainesville. Avila-Zumadio was arrested for not having a valid drivers license.

Police officers also found Avila-Zumadio to be in possession of approximately $1,900 in cash. He also had a forged Mexican passport, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

He was held overnight and appeared in bond court the next morning where a $500,000 bond was set.

Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said that police continued investigating Zumadio’s activities. On October 13 at around 3:00 p.m., with the assistance of the Round Lake Beach Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office K9 and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, both Round Lake Park and Round Lake Beach police officers executed simultaneous search warrants.
