A 31-year-old Marengo man was killed after being hit by a car after he tried crossing the street in Marengo Sunday night.
Jaime L. Campuzano, 31, of Marengo, was crossing Telegraph Street at Prospect Street in Marengo when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer travelling eastbound on Telegraph Street, the McHenry County Coroner said.
The Marengo Police Department and Marengo Fire Rescue Department was called to the scene at around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday. Campuzano was pronounced dead at the scene at around 6:44 p.m..
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 70-year-old woman. The woman and her passenger were not injured in the crash.
Authorities said that at the time of the crash it was dark and raining. They also said that Campuzano was wearing dark clothing.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning to determine the cause of death. The crash remains under investigation by the Marengo Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Accident Team, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
