A 56-year-old man was found dead by firefighters on Tuesday following a house fire in unincorporated Lake Villa, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Villa Fire Protection District, and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded at around 7:38 a.m. to a home in the 36900 block of North Corona Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa for a report of a structure fire.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found smoke coming from the northwest side of the home. Members of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District located the homeowner, a 56-year-old man, dead inside a bedroom of the residence.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives, the Lake Villa Fire Protection District, Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Lake County Coroner’s Office are conducting the ongoing investigation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a preliminary investigation showed that this was not a suspicious fire and was possibly accidental.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy on the victim Tuesday afternoon.
