The 56-year-old man who was found dead by firefighters on Tuesday following a house fire in unincorporated Lake Villa has been identified, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim of the fire has been identified as the homeowner, Curtis L. Alcorn, 56, of the 36900 block of North Corona Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa.

On Tuesday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined the preliminary cause of Alcorn’s death is related to the fire, however the coroner’s office is awaiting further testing and toxicology results to make a final determination.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Villa Fire Protection District, and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded at around 7:38 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 36900 block of North Corona Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa for a report of a structure fire.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found smoke coming from the northwest side of the home. Members of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District located Alcorn dead inside a bedroom of the residence.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives, the Lake Villa Fire Protection District, Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Lake County Coroner’s Office are conducting the ongoing investigation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a preliminary investigation showed that this was not a suspicious fire and was possibly accidental.
