The Zion Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit and run crash early Saturday morning.
At around 12:50 a.m. Saturday morning, the Zion Police Department and Zion Fire Department responded to a report of a car that struck two pedestrians near Green Bay Road and 9th Street in Zion.
When authorities arrived they found two pedestrians who were hit by a car. One of the pedestrians was killed and the other was injured. Both were adult males, but their identities have not yet been released. The crash happened south of 9th Street on Green Bay Road near the Stonebridge development, officials said.
Police have identified the car as a silver or grey Chrysler Sebring convertible with front-end damage. The driver, a male white, pulled off near Green Bay Road and Route 173, put the top up to the car, and removed evidence of the crime from his vehicle, police said.
On Tuesday, the Zion Police Department released two videos of the suspect vehicle.
“It is our hope that releasing the video will aid the public in identifying the vehicle and driver,” Zion Police Department Deputy Chief Kirk Henderson said.
The Zion Police Department is asking that the public contact them at 847-872-8000 if they recognize the vehicle or driver, were a witness to the accident, or a witness to the driver’s attempt to conceal the crime.
