A 26-year-old Wonder Lake man was seriously injured after a single-vehicle rollover crash in unincorporated Wonder Lake Thursday evening.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, Wonder Lake Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 7700 block of Howe Road at around 6:22 p.m. on Thursday.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that an investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Howe Road when, for unknown reasons, it drove off the north side of the roadway and into a field. The vehicle rolled over and the driver was ejected.
The driver, Tyler Scholz, 26, of Wonder Lake, was the sole occupant and was transported by Flight For Life to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville where he remains in critical condition. Scholz was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, authorities said.
Scholz has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Additional charges may be filed depending on the outcome of the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit. Scholz is scheduled to appear in court on December 12 at 1:30 p.m..
