A woman escaped without injury after a man pulled a knife and tried robbing her in Lake Bluff Saturday morning, police said.

The Lake Bluff Police Department was called at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday to the Carriage Way Shopping Plaza in the 200 block of South Waukegan Road in Lake Bluff for an attempted armed robbery.

Authorities said that a 33-year-old woman was walking from the shopping plaza to her vehicle when she was approached by a white male, approximately 5’8” in height, slim build, wearing a dark colored hoodie and dark pants.

The man tried to grab the victim’s purse, however the she pulled away from him. The suspect then pulled a knife and demanded the purse. The victim yelled and was able to run away without physical injury, according to Lake Bluff Police Chief David Belmonte.

The suspect was last seen running northbound from the Carriage Way Shopping Plaza, possibly on Thorn Tree Lane towards West Washington Avenue. Lake Bluff and Lake Forest Police, along with a canine unit from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department searched the area but did not find the suspect as of 1:00 p.m.
