A knife-wielding robber ran away after being hit in the head with a cellphone multiple times by the victim, Lake Forest police said.
The Lake Forest Police Department responded at 5:20 p.m. on Friday to a report of an attempted armed robbery in the 1000 block of North Western Avenue in Lake Forest.
Police said that a woman was robbed at knifepoint by a male white suspect who ran off after the victim struck the suspect in the head multiple times with her cellphone. The suspect did not take anything from the victim.
The woman described the suspect as a male white, 17-19 years old, 5’8″Â to 5’9″ in height, thin build, wearing a dark hoodie with a puffy winter jacket, and dark cargo style pants. He brandished a large kitchen knife and ran northbound on North Western Avenue from the scene, police said.
Deputy Chief of Police Robert Copeland said that responding police units set up a perimeter and a canine unit searched a nearby construction area, the Metra tracks and bike path areas. No suspect or weapon were found.
The victim received treatment at Lake Forest Hospital for a minor cut to the hand. Deputy Chief of Police Robert Copeland said that detectives have begun an investigation. Police are canvasing the neighborhood and searching for evidence in the area.
