An autopsy performed on the seven-week old baby girl who died Monday morning in Round Lake Park revealed “suspicious injuries,” the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.

Round Lake Park police officers were called to an apartment in the 0-100 block of East Main Street in Round Lake Park on Monday at 3:10 a.m. to assist an ambulance. Authorities said that an ambulance was dispatched to the apartment for a seven-week old infant girl who was reportedly having difficulty breathing.

Police said that the infant was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

Round Lake Park police requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force to assist in the investigation because “suspicious injuries” were located during the autopsy performed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, the cause and manner of the infant’s death is pending while the coroner’s office conducts additional testing which could take several weeks.

“Round Lake Park and Task Force investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death,” Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said.
