No one was injured after a kitchen fire left a home uninhabitable in Vernon Hills on Wednesday, fire officials said.

The Countryside Fire Protection District responded at 8 a.m. on Wednesday to a report of a structure fire in the 0-100 block of Monterey Drive in Vernon Hills.

When firefighters arrived there was no smoke or fire visible from the two-story single-family home, fire officials said. However, when firefighters entered the house they found a fire in the kitchen area. Crews had the fire under control and extinguished quickly.

The residents had escaped the house without injuries before firefighters arrived. The home was deemed uninhabitable and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Countryside Fire was assisted by the Mundelein, Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Knollwood fire departments along with the Vernon Hills police.
