An Antioch man and woman have been arrested and charged after robbing a gas station while they were armed with a gun and a baseball bat.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday night to a report of an armed robbery at the Citgo gas station, 41082 North Route 83 in Antioch township.

The victims, a store employee and a business patron, were exiting the store for the night when they were approached by a male and a female, sheriff’s officials said. The male was armed with a baseball bat and the female was armed with a pistol. Both of the victims were forced back into the gas station, while the two suspects stole property from the two people and the business.

The two suspects fled the scene on foot after the robbery.

“An alert Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy, who regularly patrols the area, recognized the description of the two offenders,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

The deputy identified the two suspects as Holly C. Van Crey, 26, and Jason R. Haines, 31, both of the 1200 block of Main Street in Antioch.

Police went to Haines and Van Crey’s apartment and saw items from the robbery inside. Authorities also said that Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 Diesel and his partner also found proceeds of the robbery in a field near the offenders’ apartment.

Haines and Van Crey were arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery, burglary, and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, which are all felonies.

Haines and Van Crey remain held at the Lake County Jail on a $350,000 bond. They are next due in court on January 2.
