A man was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night in Buffalo Grove while trying to buy an iPhone from someone who he contacted on Craigslist, police said.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department said that at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday they responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Buffalo Grove Town Center, which is located along Route 83 north of Lake Cook Road.
The victim told police he had answered an advertisement on Craigslist to purchase an iPhone 8. The victim parked next to the suspect vehicle, a Toyota Highlander SUV, in the parking lot and two men got out of the backseat of the Highlander and into the victim’s vehicle. There were also two other males in the front seats of the Highlander, police said.
When the two men got into the victim’s car, one of the men put, what the victim believed to be, a gun to the back of his neck. The second suspect then demanded he turn over his belongings.
The two suspects stole the victim’s iPhone 7 and got back into the Highlander. The suspect vehicle then fled southbound on Route 83 heading towards Lake Cook Road.
The suspect who threatened the victim with the gun was described as an African-American or Hispanic man, in his early to mid-20s. He had a curly mustache and was wearing gloves, a hat, and a hooded sweatshirt with a blue triangle pattern on it.
The other suspect was described as a white male, about 30-years-old, with a goatee and short hair. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket and gloves.
The other two suspects who were sitting in the getaway car were only described as two unknown age male whites. The Toyota Highlander was either silver, bronze or beige, police said.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 847-459-2560.
