Four men have been charged with murder after a man was shot to death on December 11 during a drug deal in a Walmart parking lot in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Police Department was called around 6 p.m. on December 11 to a report of a traffic crash and shots fired call in the Walmart parking lot at 3900 Fountain Square Place.
According to police radio traffic, the victim was possibly hit by a vehicle and shot. The victim had a head injury and CPR was being performed before firefighters/paramedics arrived.
However, police have not yet confirmed those details. Waukegan Police Department Chief Wayne Walles said last week on Wednesday that police were called to a shots fired call and found a person shot in the east side of the parking lot. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Waukegan Police Department Chief Wayne Walles said that the incident was isolated and the shooting was a result of a drug deal.
According to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper, the man killed in the shooting was Jovan DuBose, 23, of Park City. An autopsy performed last Tuesday morning showed that DuBose died from injuries related to the gunshot wound(s). His family has been notified and toxicology results are pending.
On Monday, Chief Walles announced that four people have been charged with first degree murder. Octavis Jones, 21, of Waukegan, Shajuan Garrett, 18, of Zion, and Gerard Wade, 22, of North Chicago, have been arrested so far. An arrest warrant has been issued for the fourth suspect, Rashaan Wade, 20, of Waukegan.
Jones, Garrett, and Gerard Wade appeared in bond court. Jones and Garrett are being held on a $3 million bond. Gerard Wade is being held on a $5 million bond.
Police said that Rashaan Wade is considered armed and dangerous and are asking the public to call 911 if you see him.
The investigation is ongoing by the Waukegan Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s tip line at 847-360-9001.
