A former nurse at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville has been arrested for stealing drugs following a multi-agency investigation.
The Libertyville Police Department announced that Benjamin J. Sandholm, 33, of 411 Larchmont Lane in Vernon Hills, was arrested and charged on December 11 with unlawful acquisition of controlled substances and theft between $500 and $10,000. Both charges are felonies.
Following a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (LCMEG), and the Libertyville Police Department, Sandholm was arrested at his home in Vernon Hills. He was processed and transferred to the Lake County Jail, police said.
Police officials said that Sandholm stole the drugs while he was working between March and October 2017 as a registered nurse at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He was appointed a public defender in court on December 12 and has since bonded out of jail, court records show.
According to the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation, Sandholm became a registered nurse in March 2016.
