A North Chicago man has been arrested after police said he robbed two businesses in Waukegan.
Waukegan police officials said that on December 16 at 6 p.m. a robbery happened at the Super Mercado La Mexicana, 1515 Washington Street, and also on December 18 at 9 p.m. at the Family Dollar, 1106 Washington St.
In both robberies, police were told that a male black suspect took money from the cash register and fled on foot. In the second robbery, the suspect implied he had a weapon.
Detectives were able to link the two cases together and identified the suspect based off surveillance footage from the Family Dollar robbery. The suspect was identified as Tharon Williams, 49, of North Chicago.
Detectives began a search for Williams and notified area businesses about him by providing employees photos of Williams.
Police said Williams entered a business Wednesday evening in the area of Glen Flora Avenue and Lewis Avenue. The business called police after they recognized him and Williams was taken into custody on an unrelated failure to appear warrant on larceny charges.
Williams was charged with robbery and aggravated robbery the next day.
He was taken to bond court and is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Williams is scheduled to appear in court again on January 9.
